A new approach to transport modelling - the Stochastic Segmented Slice Simulation (4S) model and its recent applications

چکیده
Recently there has been renewed interest in alternative modelling approaches, driven by recognised deficiencies in the traditional four step model. One stream of development has come through improved modelling of individual and household travel scheduling and joint decision making, under the umbrella of tour-based and activity-based modelling. Another stream of development has been improved approaches to discrete choice modelling, and the incorporation of more complex Random Utility Model (RUM) formulations, such as Mixed Logit. In this paper we present a new multi-modal transport model structure which incorporates many of the elements of these recent developments, but within a formulation that overcomes many of the obstacles associated with moving away from traditional models. In particular, we show that the new 4S model is very computationally efficient, and is extremely flexible and extensible, while having similar data requirements to traditional models. The model uses Monte-Carlo simulation with a unified trip generation, destination, mode, route and time-of-day choice. It allows for detailed behavioural modelling including; cycling end of trip facilities, multi-modal freight, road pricing and public transport congestion. We describe the structure of the model and discuss the theory behind it. We then give examples of the application of the model to recent projects in South East Queensland and demonstrate the new types of analysis that can be done with the model. We also demonstrate the efficiency of the model by describing its practical application to the whole of Queensland at the lot-level, and the whole of Australia at the collector-road level.

Model and Solution Approach for Multi objective-multi commodity Capacitated Arc Routing Problem with Fuzzy Demand
The capacitated arc routing problem (CARP) is one of the most important routing problems with many applications in real world situations. In some real applications such as urban waste collection and etc., decision makers have to consider more than one objective and investigate the problem under uncertain situations where required edges have demand for more than one type of commodity. So, in thi...
متن کاملDesigning a new multi-objective fuzzy stochastic DEA model in a dynamic environment to estimate efficiency of decision making units (Case Study: An Iranian Petroleum Company)
This paper presents a new multi-objective fuzzy stochastic data envelopment analysis model (MOFS-DEA) under mean chance constraints and common weights to estimate the efficiency of decision making units for future financial periods of them. In the initial MOFS-DEA model, the outputs and inputs are characterized by random triangular fuzzy variables with normal distribution, in which ...
متن کاملRetrieval–travel-time model for free-fall-flow-rack automated storage and retrieval system
Automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RSs) are material handling systems that are frequently used in manufacturing and distribution centers. The modelling of the retrieval–travel time of an AS/RS (expected product delivery time) is practically important, because it allows us to evaluate and improve the system throughput. The free-fall-flow-rack AS/RS has emerged as a new technology for dr...
متن کاملA New Dynamic Random Fuzzy DEA Model to Predict Performance of Decision Making Units
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a methodology for measuring the relative efficiency of decision making units (DMUs) which ‎consume the same types of inputs and producing the same types of outputs. Believing that future planning and predicting the ‎efficiency are very important for DMUs, this paper first presents a new dynamic random fuzzy DEA model (DRF-DEA) with ‎common weights (using...
متن کاملA New Hybrid Algorithm to Optimize Stochastic-fuzzy Capacitated Multi-Facility Location-allocation Problem
Facility location-allocation models are used in a widespread variety of applications to determine the number of required facility along with the relevant allocation process. In this paper, a new mathematical model for the capacitated multi-facility location-allocation problem with probabilistic customer's locations and fuzzy customer’s demands under the Hurwicz criterion is proposed. Thi...
